A Maroubra Tradition Since 1996
The inaugural Maroubra Fun Run was organised by the Maroubra and Districts Chamber of Commerce in 1996, coinciding with the centenary of the Boston Marathon.
Passionate runners Richard and Philip Walsh from Walsh’s Village Pharmacy helped bring the original event to life and have continued their involvement every year since.
What began with 190 participants and a small community fair now attracts more than 1,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair participants, plus thousands of visitors for Oktoberfest.
The event continues to receive strong support from local organisations, including South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club, the Maroubra Lions Club, Rotary Club of Maroubra, Randwick SES, Randwick City Council and local volunteers.
The Course
The course is a four-kilometre out-and-back loop beginning at Arthur Byrne Reserve beside South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club. Eight-kilometre entrants complete two laps.
Participants travel through Fitzgerald Avenue and Malabar Road before following the shared path towards Manwaring Avenue and tackling Mount Manwaring, affectionately known as Maroubra’s own Heartbreak Hill.
The course then loops through Broome Street and Fitzgerald Avenue before returning to Arthur Byrne Reserve for the finish.

Before You Go
Race bibs and timing tags can be collected from the registration tent between 7.30am and 9am. Bring your emailed e-ticket on your phone or as a printed copy to help speed up collection.
With more than 1,000 participants expected, arriving early will give you enough time to collect your bib, warm up and mentally prepare for that Mount Manwaring climb.
