Alexandria’s Huge New Indoor Sports Centre Is Now Open
NOW OPEN · ALEXANDRIA

Alexandria has a major new place to play, train and get moving.

The new Huntley Street Recreation Centre is now open at 6–8 Huntley Street, bringing four indoor multipurpose courts, community spaces and fitness facilities to one of Sydney’s fastest-growing neighbourhoods.

And unlike plenty of shiny new facilities, this one is designed to be properly used.

Four courts under one roof

The centre’s four indoor courts can be configured for a long list of sports including basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton, futsal, pickleball and table tennis.

There are also three multipurpose rooms available for programs, meetings, events, birthday parties and light exercise classes.

For local clubs, schools and instructors, that makes the centre particularly useful. Courts and rooms can be hired for training, organised programs and competitions.

The Local Bird take

This is a genuinely useful addition for Alexandria and the surrounding Green Square area. Indoor courts are always in demand, and the mix of casual sport, competitions and hireable spaces gives this one plenty of reasons to keep coming back.

Pickleball, basketball, netball and more

The timetable is already starting to fill.

Casual pickleball sessions are running at the centre, while basketball, netball and pickleball competitions are also being offered.

The venue is also hosting NBA Basketball School sessions for younger players, adding another family-friendly reason to know about the new centre.

Built for the growing Green Square area

The City of Sydney converted an existing industrial building into the two-storey recreation centre, adding spectator seating, change rooms, a kiosk, fitness space and outdoor practice courts.

The project also includes rooftop solar panels, rainwater collection and opportunities for natural light and ventilation.

Accessibility has been built into the venue, with lift access, automatic doors, accessible toilets and mobility parking available nearby.

Good to know before you go

There’s no onsite parking, so public transport, walking or cycling may be the easier option.

Green Square Station is around 1.2 kilometres away, while the nearest Huntley Street bus stop is about 150 metres from the centre.

Opening hours vary slightly depending on bookings, with the centre generally operating into the evening during the week and across weekends.
