First Look: The Huge New Pump Track Coming to South-East Sydney

South-East Sydney families, bike loving kids and thrill seeking riders…this one is going to be big.

The final design has been revealed for a major new pump track at Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany, with connected trails catering for everyone from complete beginners finding their balance to experienced riders chasing a serious challenge.

Bayside Council developed the design with specialist trail designers Common Ground Trails following consultation with local young people in 2025.

This won’t be a little loop around the park.
The new facility will include several connected riding zones, allowing riders to build confidence and progress to more technical trails.

What Exactly Is a Pump Track?

If you’re picturing a flat bike path, think again. A pump track is a looping course filled with rollers, banked corners and flowing turns.

Riders use their body movement to generate momentum or “pump” through the course rather than pedalling continuously. Pump tracks can also be used by scooters and skateboards, depending on the facility’s rules.

Something for Every Kind of Rider

The design brings together a pump track and descending trails with beginner, intermediate, difficult and extreme options.

Riders will be able to start on the easier sections, develop their skills and gradually move onto more challenging trails—all within the one integrated facility.

The plans also include:

Landscaping and new seating areas
Improved pathways and accessibility
A dedicated spectator area
Spaces for families and friends to gather
Trails designed for different ages and skill levels

Once complete, the track should turn this part of Sir Joseph Banks Park into a proper outdoor recreation destination for South-East Sydney.

Before Everyone Grabs Their Bikes…

The pump track hasn’t been built yet, and an official opening date has not been announced.

The design has now been finalised, but Bayside Council is inviting locals to explore the plans and share which parts of the new facility they’re most looking forward to using.

Feedback closes on Sunday 11 October 2026.
