Bondi is about to become one seriously good-looking outdoor gallery, with extraordinary photography taking over the Pavilion, the beachfront and the promenade this November.
Head On Photo Festival is back from Friday 6 to Sunday 29 November 2026, bringing work from Australian and international photographers out of traditional galleries and into some of Bondi’s most familiar spaces.
WHEN: 6–29 November 2026
WHERE: Bondi Pavilion and Bondi Beach promenade
COST: Festival exhibitions are free
LAUNCH PARTY: Friday 6 November, 7pm–10pm
PHOTOBOOK MARKET: Sunday 8 November, 12pm–5pm
Bondi, But Through a Different Lens
You do not need to know your aperture from your elbow to enjoy this one.
Large-scale photographs will appear along the Bondi Beach promenade, turning an ordinary coastal walk into a free outdoor gallery visit.
The 2026 program spans portraiture, landscapes, documentary photography and clever conceptual work, with stories exploring local life, identity, climate, conflict and communities around the world.
A walk along Bondi Beach is about to double as a visit to one of Sydney’s biggest photography festivals.
Local Faces Take Centre Stage
Among the exhibitions inside Bondi Pavilion is Faces of Bondi, a community project celebrating the characters who give the neighbourhood its personality.
There is also Love Bondi, a photographic celebration of the beach, its people and the wonderfully mixed crowd that calls it home.
These are the exhibitions we will be heading to first. They feel unmistakably local rather than simply being dropped into Bondi for the month.
It All Starts With a Party
The festival officially opens at Bondi Pavilion on Friday 6 November from 7pm to 10pm, with music, food, drinks and the chance to meet the photographers and curators behind the program.
The winners of the 2026 Head On Photo Awards will also be revealed, with an $80,000 prize pool and the $5,000 Mayor of Waverley Prize announced on the night.
Launch tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for ages 18–25 and free for anyone under 18.
BOOK LAUNCH TICKETSShop Straight From the Photographers
The opening weekend continues with the free Head On Photobook & Zine Market at Bondi Pavilion on Sunday 8 November from 12pm to 5pm.
Photographers, independent publishers and creative collectives will fill the Pavilion with limited-edition books and zines. You can browse the work, meet the people behind it and buy directly from them.
No ticket is required. Just wander in and try not to leave with an entirely new photobook collection.
Start with the outdoor works along the promenade, explore the Pavilion exhibitions and then make a Bondi afternoon of it with lunch or a drink nearby.
Art Without the Awkward Gallery Whispering
That is what makes Head On such a strong fit for Bondi. The work is impressive, but the experience is relaxed, accessible and open to anyone passing by.
You might arrive for a swim or a beach walk and leave having discovered a photographer whose work you cannot stop thinking about. Not bad for a free day out.
