The Local Bird Food Guide
Corner 75 Brings Hungarian History to the Heart of Randwick
Behind the lace curtains on Frenchmans Road is a restaurant with more than four decades of stories, a new generation at the helm and one of the Eastern Suburbs’ most distinctive dining rooms.
Hidden in Plain Sight
What’s Behind the Lace Curtains?
Corner 75 has long been a gathering place for Sydney’s Hungarian-Australian community. Its Frenchmans Road dining room is filled with framed photographs, football memorabilia, maps and keepsakes—less polished concept, more living scrapbook.
It is warm, personal and unlike any other restaurant in the Eastern Suburbs. The lace curtains, candlelight and collected memories make dinner here feel closer to visiting a much-loved family home than stepping into a restaurant.
The New Chapter
Same Soul, New Custodians
In 2025, long-time owner Paul Varga retired and handed Corner 75 to Dan Puskas, chef and co-owner of Sixpenny, together with Baba’s Place co-owners Jean-Paul El Tom and Alex Kelly.
The team focused its changes on the food, service and largely Hungarian wine list. The room itself—with all its history and personality—was left to keep doing what it does best.
“A preservation project of Hungarian Australian migrant culture communicated through food, service and space.”

On the Menu
Hungarian Comfort Food, Carefully Refreshed
The menu moves between familiar Hungarian flavours and a more polished style of cooking. Start with lángos and sour cream, pork and paprika sausage with lecsó, pickled bullhorn peppers or túró dumplings with mushrooms and sour cream.

The Main Event
Yes, the Schnitzel Stays
The restaurant’s locally famous pork schnitzel remains firmly on the menu, ready to pair with red cabbage, cucumber salad, nokedli or creamed spinach.
There is also poached John Dory with white beans and sauerkraut, confit duck leg and roasted Sommerlad chicken with paprikash sauce. This is food that rewards settling in and taking your time.
Dessert
Don’t Leave Yet
Apple strudel, golden pastry and colourful frozen desserts make a convincing argument for staying at the table a little longer.
The Local Bird Take
Corner 75 is proof that a restaurant can evolve without sanding away everything that made it distinctive. It remains warm, wonderfully individual and firmly part of the Randwick story.
