Bondi Rescue Could Return to Bondi for Three More Seasons

Local News | Bondi

Bondi Rescue could be back on Bondi Beach for three more seasons, after Waverley Council agreed in principle to a new filming arrangement with production company CJZ.

The proposal includes three seasons, with an option for a fourth. It follows a two year break from new episodes: the most recent episode aired in August 2024.

Councillors considered the proposal at their meeting on Tuesday 20 October. Council’s in-principle support is a step towards the show’s return, but filming is not confirmed yet. A separate agreement between CJZ and the lifeguards, covering promotional work, still needs to be finalised.

What’s in the proposed deal?

CJZ would have two filming options at Bondi: 35 days or 70 days. The proposed location fee is $62,500 for the shorter option or $125,000 for the longer one, plus 10 per cent of the series’ net profits.

First broadcast in 2006, Bondi Rescue follows Waverley Council’s professional lifeguards as they patrol the beach. The series has taken Bondi’s rescues, beach culture and familiar lifeguard team to audiences around the world.

There are no filming dates or broadcast details to share yet. Those will depend on the final agreements between Council, CJZ and the lifeguards.

For Bondi locals, the familiar cameras may return to the sand but the next season is not a done deal. The proposed filming arrangement still needs to move from in-principle support to final agreements.
